This preorder is part of the Heaven or Hell design challenge.

The challenge runs until September 21st, 2026 at 12pm (noon) CST.

I wanted to illustrate something in the style of Albrecht Dürer; as far as religious imagery goes his impact is undeniable, and he is of great personal inspiration. To subvert the expectations within the counterparts of 'heaven and hell', I put my two main characters, representing their respective domains, on the same playing field. They sit on an unremarkable park bench, sharing a cigarette. My overall goal with this illustration was to present two counterbalances with the ambiguity they deserve, to say that morality is low contrast. While the action of sharing a cigarette has this playful and friendly, diffusing quality to it, it also nods at the concepts of mortality and morbidity. Even mythical creatures, the spawns of gods and demons, find themselves at odds with reality, sharing a smoke with someone unexpected.
